Backcountry Management Plan (BMP) Discussions at REIThe GCHBA invites you to attend an open session for discussion of wilderness, hiking permits, and similar resource policy topics related to the Grand Canyon backcountry, especially dayhiking and backpacking access. The current management plan dates from 1988 and the Park Service has just now started the process to develop a new plan, and much has changed since then --including more hikers, more kinds of activities, more competition for access -- and then there's that whole internet thing. This will be an opportunity for face-time with a few of your fellow Grand Canyon enthusiasts. Please note this event is not a function of the National Park Service. There are two sessions; one in Tempe, AZ and the other in Phoenix, AZ. Members and non-members are welcome to attend. You should register in advance to make sure there is room for you. You can do it at the last minute or just show up and take your chances. But best thing is to take a few minutes to register. You can read the documents from the National Park Service here but they can be a bit overwhelming. Meeting location:
REI Tempe Meeting location:
REI Paradise Valley
